Founded in 1888, Christ Lutheran Church is one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in the state of Mississippi and the only Lutheran church in the Pascagoula area. As a part of the Southern District of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, we remain committed to following our Savior Jesus Christ and the Good News of God’s grace through him, following in the tradition of the Reformation's articulation of the Apostolic faith. Please contact us with any questions you may have, or stop by and visit!
The Christian Church exists first and foremost to bear witness to the truths of God and the Gospel. There is only one true God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; in the person of Jesus Christ, God took on humanity and through his death and resurrection has redeemed the world. We further confess the Bible as the Word of God and the Lutheran Confessions contained in the Book of Concord as a faithful exposition of God's Word.
As Martin Luther once said, "God doesn't need your good works, but your neighbor does." We serve God especially by loving our neighbors and doing good to them, and we seek to be a good neighbor to all within our community. As God has shown mercy to us through our Lord Jesus, we desire to share that mercy with others, along with the peace that comes through being reconciled to God through Christ.
The Christian faith is not a solitary path; Christians are called to gather together often for worship, service, and mutual encouragement. We are incredibly blessed by our church family here! We gather as a congregation to receive God's gifts in Word and Sacrament, to respond with praise and thanksgiving, and to walk together as followers of Christ.
Pastor Derek Waffel took a call in Huntsville, Alabama in late 2023. We wish him and his family the best as he follows his call where the Lord leads him. We are currently in the LCMS call process, but in the meantime, are blessed to have three wonderful visiting pastors rotating Sundays.
